GC Chandrashekhar took Oath as MP in Kannada, his native language
The Congress won all three Rajya Sabha seats it contested
Counting of the 185 votes , a total 217 turned up to vote , began after clearance from the Election Commission, Of the three Congress candidates, G C Chandrashekar, political secretary to KPCC president G Parameshwara, the party’s third candidate, polled the highest number of votes (46). Dalit writer L Hanumanthaiah, the party’s first candidate, polled 44 while Syed Naseer Hussain secured 42.
Mr. Chandrashekar was a former general secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, rajya sabha members elected by the state legislators of Karnataka he took oath as MP in his mother tongue Kannada language because as a MP from a state it’s the duty to protect the Regionalism considering the geographical, historical, cultural, economic, politico- administrative and psyche factors and also should be a voice of people anything in concern with water,and and language of the State.
His oath taking in Kannada language is appreciated by many people and Vice president of the country Mr Venkayya Naidu who is also a chairman of Rajyasabha appreciated the effort of new MP G.C Chandrashekar and said ‘Very Good Kannada’
